This East London guy has been playing music most of his life, even taking a stint in an ill fated R n B group. but things have picked up since one of his demos fell into the hands of a certain Mark Ronson, producer of his latest offering.
After the rock meets funk stylings of 'Scratch', LJM turns the tempo down a notch with a piano-led ballad that deals with the all too relevant topic of young people and their key issues of overwhelming boredom and struggle for motivation. It's a thought provoking set of observations with a catchy sing-along quality that recalls the likes of Suggs at his peak. The production itself adds to the song whilst maintaining the authors' distinctive hallmark.
He may still be somewhat of an unknown, but 'Bed Of Nails' is yet further proof of Leon Jean Marie's ability to draw on a variety of different influences to create something that stands out in a scene of beige coloured blandness.
