Blah Blah Blah - Death To The Indie Disco
More on: Blah Blah Blah

Label: KIDS
Release Date: 07/04/08
Rating:

Something bad has obviously happened to Jay Canagaseby at some hip indie disco, and he's a man who holds a grudge; as indie kids may have been called "wankers" before, but rarely with such venomous intent. Sounding like Ian Dury's angry offspring, it would be no surprise to pick up The Sun one day, and read that he's walked through the doors of one of Alan McGee's club nights, and hit a few people over the head with his rhythm stick. But oh should they be grateful, for in Blah Blah Blah they have a band that marry the revered musicality of the Blockheads, with the informed cynicism of fellow southern bards like Ray Davies in a splendid hybrid of humour and hate.

Just when you’re feeling bad about being a young indie kid though, track two 'Death Until We Part' will make sure you're even more scared of growing old, with its music-hall lament to expanding waistlines and receding hairlines. Blah Blah Blah are a band so brimful of ideas they're going to force a lot of people to walk the well trodden path back to the drawing board. If there's a more original or refreshing outfit currently doing the rounds then Bruno will eat his Hat.
