Strain your ears hard enough and you can almost hear an intoxicated play on At The Drive-In's 'One Armed Scissor' in the first distorted chords of 'Say Something, Say Anything'. It may be wishful thinking (wouldn't many a band admire sounding like ATD-I?), but the Brighton duo's indie-punk-grunge does wear its US influences on its sleeve.
'Say Something...' is certainly not an anthem, but never does it try to be - it's a solid rock song. The fun arrives towards the back end with turbulent drum smashing ramping up the intensity for a short spell before we're lead back into the final chorus. Blood Red Shoes distribute enough melody for the mainstream and a plentiful dose of distortion for those who like their music a little heavier.
