Elle Milano are a three piece indie band from Brighton (yes another one), though thankfully they don't sound like The Kooks. The best comparison would be a slightly less aggressive Hard-Fi with extra keyboards, as singer Adam M. Crisp sings about the same suburban concerns as Richard Archer - though he is prone to the odd lyrical mishap ("eyelids keep my thoughts in"). His voice however posseses purpose and vigour and he puts plenty into the performance, though it does lack a certain unique quality.
The song itself is energetic and sounds quite big and brash without resorting to spacious soundscaping. The use of strings along with the keyboard is particularly effective, as is the call and answer between Crisp and the backing vocals. The chorus combines all these elements and will stick in the mind once heard. 'Meanwhile In Hollywood' is an unashamedly strident record and is an accomplished first single from a band with potential.
