Envy & Other Sins - Highness

You may very well recognise this lot as the Midlands four piece who emerged triumphant from the Jo Whiley fronted Mobile Act unsigned competition which recently graced our beloved television screens. The show itself may have bypassed my attention but the other wannabees must have been pretty darn atrocious if this was the best on offer.

So what do they actually sound like then? 'Highness' is caught in the black hole of late Nineties Britpop with its uninspired guitar riffs and ridiculous helium assisted vocals. It's a track so bad that even touring mates The Hoosiers would turn it down, and is accompanied by a video so irritating the idea of human dart boards becomes strangely appealing. I have absolutely no idea how this band have over 36,000 MySpace friends but the guys better get down to confession sharpish as they have more than a lot to answer for.

While it's clear where Mr. Inglis stands, I'd like to add my two pennies.

"We leave at dawn" by Envy & Other Sins is, in my opinion, excellent.

I, like many others got hooked thanks to T4's mobile act unsigned and was eagerly awaiting the album release.
I purchased it in early April and 3 months on, it is still resident in my car CD player.

Here is a band who know how to knock out a decent tune and I'm clearly not the only one who thinks this. The other 36,000 my space sinners are testament to that.

It's a refreshing change to see a band with class and I wish them every success.
