Les Savy Fav - Patty Lee
More on: Les Savy Fav

Label: Wichita
Release Date: 25/02/08
Rating:

One of the less noteworthy songs from 'Let's Stay Friends', 'Patty Lee' will still be head and shoulders above most of this week's releases. A funked up track of two halves opens as Killing Joke taking a commendable stab at 'Emotional Rescue', with the pounding tribal drumming and the grating soprano guitar offset by the disco falsetto vocal of Tim Harrington. Both voice and guitar then drop a couple of octaves as the sound goes widescreen and we reach more familiar but tamed post-hardcore territory.

It may not have the commercial merits of 'Patty Lee' but b-side 'The Sweat Descends' is a far better track, reminding us all that LSF cut angular new wave and robo-punk better than anyone. Beneath its splintered guitar lines and jerking Q And Not U groove it simmers with a latent rage that finally boils over as the track embarks on its lengthy and conclusive thrash. Worth the cover price alone.
