The crowd are less than eager to welcome support Test Icicles on stage tonight, and they sure do know it, yet continuing to put in 100% anyway. With a few snide comments to their unappreciative peers, and more catchy songs that you can shake an emo-punk stick at, they thrash through their set. 'Circle Square Triangle' blasts through the cosy student union, and the audience shows occasional signs of repenting - but only on the strength of one song it seems. We all know what they're here for, and they show it.

We Are Scientists assault the stage to thundering applause from the entire crowd, as they finally begin to enjoy themselves. There's no lack of banter, including urging us all to love Test Icicles (a plea that falls on deaf ears). They really do have a knack for all-round entertainment, even if it is just for Chris Cain's comedy science goggles, for which this was the debut.

All the band's tracks are potential hits, and they have the live ability to boot. This is surely a winning combination, and judging by the hoards of enthused fans overflowing the merch stand, it will be a winner.

As soon as the opening bars of 'Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt' are heard, the crowd goes wild. The lyrics are pure gold, and the sound of a mass of people singing them in unison can't fail to excite. Keith Murray, visibly screaming like a small child inside, looks like a Cheshire cat behind his guitar as he hears the words echoing back to him with passion. Michael Tapper has been grinning the whole time behind his kit. The entire band tonight are showing they really love what they do.
