Oasis - Let There Be Love

Oasis are many things to many people, yet if there's one thing least likely to appear on the list, it's sentimental. They're brash, and are more likely to chant about the excesses of rock n' roll than anything heartfelt or sympathetic. Even lighter moments of yore 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Wonderwall' were clouded in piles of cocaine or football terrace chanting, and we'd all rather forget the lyrical disaster of 'Little James'. So, when they spring the altogether more reasoned 'Let There Be Love', something's got to be up.

The more cynical may hark back to the Gallaghers' heroes The Beatles and 'All You Need Is Love' for reason, if not inspiration. Yet despite the continued and oft public brawls between the brothers, they are reaching middle age, and that seems to be the most likely explanation for the shift towards meaningful lyrics: they're mellowing. Dare we say it, this is actually quite nice.
