Why are the modern day descendants of the Norse pantheon so happy-go-lucky? From the oozy bubblegum pop of Jens Lekman (and he tries so hard to be bitter) to the clean pressed-shirt dance madness of I'm From Barcelona (and they try so hard to be glum), the Scandinavians are irresistibly attracted to fun, as if they were the true sonic inheritors of twee. Alphabeat, with their single 'Fantastic Six', are no different.
Two singers singing in tandem, lots of ah ah's, and group whoa-oh's ensure everything but a boring listening experience vocally (experience can range from picturing a really happy Arcade Fire to the bad-awesome music videos of the B-52's). So there's energy, and that energy's name is fun, but can they play? Well, yes – there are clean repetitions of guitar, heavy punches of keyboards, understated taps of bass, an explosion of percussion – it's all there. 'Fantastic Six' goes down easy and takes its time leaving the brain. Huzzah for fun!
