Are We Are Scientists the next big thing? They've certainly had the press, been tipped by the right people and played the right gigs, yet the buzz really isn't deafening anyone. Nobody could say that post punk tinged indie that's a bit danceable is the most unique formula of the moment, after all, and that bunch of pesky Sheffield urchins Arctic Monkeys have stolen all the headlines at just the wrong time.
While such matters may have little to do with the music, and more to do with everything else, tracks like lead single 'Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt' will hardly harm their case. Infectious choruses and polished hook lines are trademark to We Are Scientists' sound, and here they use them to devastating effect. "If you wanna use my body, go for it" - hardly the kind of invitation the indie kid poster-boy generation will turn down.
'The Great Escape' continues the trend, providing the kind of track that has every element of a hit single to it. Despite the nagging feeling that it may be flying a bit too close to the line marked Gay Dad, it's far too catchy for such concerns.
It's album closer 'What's The Word' that properly sums up We Are Scientists, however. "What's the point in making all this noise if nothing's ever getting heard?". They've got a point, but on the strength of this there's little to worry about.
