When music as beautiful as this is made from scratch it makes you wonder how any other form of music can possibly be deemed acceptable. Beauty is not an easy thing to describe in any form, but one thing's for sure - for music to be so moving, heartfelt and pretty is a rarity.
Right from the first beats of the bass drum and the accompanying semi-swaggering guitar riff, this anthem builds up a head of steam and demands exploration of each little niche in which a different marvel is stored. Something new turns up with each listen. which only reinforces those original awe-inspiring thoughts.
The sheer angst, passion and despair as Arcade Fire chant "every time I close my eyes, lies, lies" is enough to make anyone feel their pain. And who knows? Tomorrow’s troops could yet be marching along to ‘Rebellion (Lies)’. Now that’d be a suitable way of conveying the beauty.
