Green Day have spoken about the progress of their new album.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, singer Billie Joe Armstrong revealed the band have 45 songs ready for the follow-up to 2004's 'American Idiot'. Armstrong explained: "We have a lot of music - something like 45 songs... It's total chaos... I want to dig into who I am and what I'm feeling at this moment - which is middle-aged.
"We've been doing this for almost 20 years now. You want to make sure you're being honest with yourself. I also have to ask myself 'what's real out there?' Right now, it seems stagnant."
The trio are currently in their rehearsal studio in Oakland, California, where they are writing the album on the piano, instead of the guitar. There is currently no planned release date for the new album.
