22nd and 23rd September marked the 23rd anniversary of the San Diego Street Scene, and what a scene it was. Originally a festival held in the streets of San Diego, Street Scene was moved to the brand new Coors amphitheater this year. Six stages set up throughout the venue offered festival goers the opportunity to see some of their favorite rock and alternative bands and also experience new and emerging artists.

This year's street scene was an eclectic blast: two days filled with the hippest acts, from legendary artists like Social Distortion, to the new British Wave coming from Biffy Clyro and Editors.

The Hispanic influence by the likes of Kinky and The Jaguars sat alongside all-American alt-Rock acts such as Jack's Mannequin and The Academy Is... Some complained about the distant location of the new venue, but none who made the trek were disappointed.

Saturday, on the main stage, the audience swayed and jumped to the big sounds of Augustana, Panic! At The Disco, The Academy Is... and Muse. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco seemed as excited and surprised as the audience when William Beckett from The Academy Is... came out to join them for a couple of songs. On Sunday Editors' aggressive pop style kicked off the main stage line-up followed by a folky, yet rich performance from Paolo Nutini. The day was topped by blow away performances from both Arctic Monkeys and The Killers to end the show.

Stealing the limelight on the Captain Morgan stage, Army Of Me, Biffy Clyro, Gym Class Heroes, Tiger Army, and Social Distortion gave performances that had the audience tearing up the grass below their feet. At some points throughout the weekend, it seemed as though the large field was too small to hold the number of fans that turned up to watch and sing along with the performances.
No matter what your musical taste is, San Diego Street Scene had something to offer. From the folk/pop sounds of Brett Dennen to the alternative rock of Brand New, fans that came to see old favorites were pleasantly surprised and won over by these new emerging artists. As with most music festivals, the food and drinks were expensive and parking was at times quite difficult, but luckily those were not the selling points that attracted the fans. The energy at San Diego Street Scene was high and the music was exhilarating. Throughout the weekend, cheering crowds could be heard from almost any location onsite or within a 10 mile radius. For serious music lovers this was the perfect way to end the summer of 2007. We look forward to Street Scene 2008!
