Arctic Monkeys' inadvertent charge at world domination continues apace with latest single 'Fluorescent Adolescent'. Sophomore album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' has spawned yet another potential classic from the Sheffield quartet; singable guitar riffs fastpaced and the chorus "Oh the boy's a slag, the best you ever had" - it can't fail to please.
Alex Turner's deliberately colloquial writing lends itself to the gritty guitars which stab away at the song, giving it an off-beat feel, despite the straight bass and drum rhythm. The song uses dynamics to help it flow, tailing into near silence at the end of the chorus before launching back into the verse.
Although this is arguably not the best song musically on the album, it is one of the most commercial and easy to listen to, which makes it the ideal release before the band hit the festival circuit.
