O2 Wireless Festival 2007: Friday
More on: Mark Ronson

The more dance-orientated day of the O2 Wireless festival kicks off for Clickmusic with Swedish pop sensation Robyn. The diminutive platinum blonde does her best opening for the main stage with her sweeter-than-expected pop, but ultimately fails to make an impression.

We make a decision to check out the deckchairs at the bandstand for Katie Lewis, but decide to get into the vibe of the day by watching Just Jack. Our Jack seems like a nice chap, in that he's like a regular guy plucked from the street to bore us to tears about his marijuana-induced paranoia. You're not impressing us either, with your patronising tales of "goths in discos". Still, we are left with the summery vibe of 'Starz In Your Eyes', so all is forgiven.

Off to the Tuborg tent for the completely out of place Paul Steel. The singer/songwriter has been stuck in a tent full of dance acts, which is a shame as he would've shone in any other day at the festival. Looking like a left-over Klaxon, the singer played a sprightly set with a backing band, and we finally understood his placement on the final number. The quirky Steel went all disco and treated us to some nifty keyboard skills and some serious dancing. Utterly wasted on the day's crowd - we are keen to see Paul Steel on his own turf.

If we're totally honest, this night was never going to be the one anyone talks about, and the highlight was dependent on a certain Mark Ronson. Coming on before headliners Faithless, it's fair to say the New York-based producer had some pressure on him. Let's get it out the way now - no Amy Winehouse and no Lily Allen - Amy did send her love from Stockholm though. However, the disgustingly smooth and laidback maestro gave us the best set of the night with the hugely anticipated and rarely seen live rendition of his 'Version' album. He was joined by original album artists Daniel Merriweather - whose effortless finale 'Stop Me' drove the crowd wild, and Alex Greenwald, who treated the crowd to his own track 'California', after owning 'Just'. A huge amount of fun times and great songs for the reduced crowd - there was a reason Leeds didn't get this night. Unfortunate, as Mark Ronson could've been a real show-stopper.
