Kaiser Chiefs can't really be blamed for not cracking the US - they are simply too darn British. Even though the USA and Britain are allies in world politics, it's a whole different kettle of fish when it comes to music - Kaiser Chiefs' cheeky-chappie Britpop just won't do across the other side of the Atlantic.
'Everything is Average Nowadays' is typically English in sound and content, zooming right into fourth gear with the opening driven chorus. This would work if there were somewhere else to go, but after the initial burst of energy there is no fifth gear, and it runs out of ideas pretty quick. Fun for a few minutes, but come on lads, this is the time to shine. Everything just feels a bit, well... unfinished.
The Kaisers certainly know how to set themselves up with a song title like this. Luckily, their second single from 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob' just about keeps its head above the depths of mediocrity.
