Clickmusic Awards 2005: Worst of 2005: G4 & James Blunt
More on: James Blunt

Now we've had an in-depth look at the best 2005 had to offer, what about the worst? We've asked for your Worst Band and Worst Single of the year, and the results weren't exactly surprising.

G4. We'd love to mean the four richest economies of the world; they don't inflict covers of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' upon the charts, after all. Sadly it's Jonathan Ansell, Matthew Stiff, Mike Christie and Ben Thapa. They didn't even win the competition: that dubious honour went to Steve Brookstein who is infinitely less annoying due to the simple fact that he's not actually done anything since. They're classical musicians masquerading as pop stars: deliberately playing dumb because they've been told that's what the public wants. Well, we've got something to tell G4. We don't want it. Any of it.

Now when it comes to Worst Single, however, there were two front runners. We can only assume you opted out of choosing Crazy Frog's effort because it's meant to be annoying, rather than something far more annoying which is masquerading as 'real' music; something we're supposed to view as heartfelt and emotional, but would rather slam the singer's head out of a train window. Yes, we're talking about you James Blunt, and that squawking you insist is a song called 'You're Beautiful'. We don't care if you're an ex-soldier. It doesn't matter that you play your instruments and write your songs - McFly can do that. What does matter is that your whiney scrawl of a voice has infiltrated every single television programme, radio station and advertisement going, and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop. Our only saving grace here is the fact that James' name is now rhyming slang. Karma, anyone?
