'Year Zero', the highly (and I mean highly) anticipated new album from the legendary Nine Inch Nails, has provided us with a rather interesting and elaborate new single.
Whilst the heavy electro/industrial rock sound of NIN is certainly not for everybody, you can tell from the first spin that this track is going to be a winner in alternative clubs across the land. The repetitive electro-infused bass line that permeates the track lends an urgency which grabs your ears from the off. Trent Reznor's vocal accompaniment snakes along during the verses with a subdued intensity leading into an explosive chorus.
Although it occasionally veers dangerously close to monotony, 'Survivalism' is another helping of a unique sound - the likes of which only NIN can truly pull off. Hardened veteran fans and newbies alike will find something to enjoy in this three and a half minute aural assault.
