Arguably the year's most eagerly anticipated new release, 'Brianstorm' begins by shoving your face in the dirt with a frantic intro - guitar, bass and drums pummelling you into submission. Just when you think your number's up there comes the change of tack that has become the band's trademark, as the more familiar rock-dance groove takes over.
The other recognisable traits are all in place too - the clever wordplay, the Sheffield vernacular, a song about an otherwise mundane subject. In this case the subject is, yep, a chap named Brian, a shifty character with dodgy dress sense who inspires the line that constitutes the songs main hook: "We can't take our eyes off your T-shirt and tie combination, well see ya later innovator!"
Ending as it begins, in frenetic style, 'Brianstorm' is brief but exhilarating. On this evidence, all bodes well for 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'.
