Over the past few months, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly has built a reputation not only because of his distinctive stage name, but, more importantly, for his delicately structured, consistently moving songs. This re-release of last year's 'I Spy' further marks him as one of the vital artists of 2007.
'I Spy' sees Sam Duckworth at his most uplifting; his typical combination of acoustic guitar and drum machines accompanied by delicate keyboards and soaring cellos. Although the lyrics may seem a little bit unremarkable, they're excused due to the sheer quality of the more endearing features of the track. A back-to-basics, effortlessly pretty "la la la" refrain really gives the song its character, while Duckworth's vocals are nothing short of mesmerising, building throughout until the song's penultimate, triumphant chorus.
'I Spy' proves that for all of Mika's dramatics and James Morrison's soul, the stripped-back sound can still come out on top.
