New Young Pony Club's lead singer Tahita Bulmer was in 15th place on the NME's cool list this year and therefore wakes up each morning secure in the knowledge that she's much cooler than Albert Hammond Jr., but slightly less cool than Liam Gallagher. As part of her year-long campaign to prove that she's now much hipper than the Oasis front man, Bulmer throws on her best 'new rave' outfit and drops 'The Bomb'.
This is NYPC’s third single, following on from the excellent 'Ice Cream' - which was used in an Intel advert, as the corporation attempted to become the official microchip supplier of choice to the indie-dance community. With a smattering of Human League synthesisers, a lovely Duran Duran middle eight and some LCD Soundsystem rapid-fire drums, the song shimmies through familiar dancefloor territory. It's slick and glossy, but lacks anything new or distinctive which would elevate it above the level of 'fairly good'.
If it came on in a club you'd dance; if it came on the radio you'd hum along. Although you probably wouldn't feel the need to rush out and buy it, as you already have 400 variations of this type of song sitting in your record collection.
