As manufactured as a cheap Tesco sausage or not, there's no denying The Kooks have made a huge impact on 2006. Bags of hit singles and tracks you just can't get out of your head, we couldn't have left them out - even if we'd wanted to.

38. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
More may have been expected from this US DIY Troupe, but there's no denying their take on a lo-fi Talking Heads is nothing less than inspired. A slow burner, but a good one.

37. Lostprophets - Liberation Transmission
Kiddy nu-metal goes emo-tastic with surprisingly ace results. Any album partially fueled by a break up with Fearne Cotton has to be a little bit special, right?

36. The Concretes – The Concretes In Colour
The second album from the Swedish collective, 'In Colour' isn't just brilliant, it's jam packed with fun too. Where they take their strand of 60s pop without their most recognisable member remains to be seen.

35. Wolfmother - Wolfmother
It'd be fair to say only those with dangerously greasy long hair and crusty t-shirts picked up from HMV were gagging for a Led Zep revival in 2006, and yet here one is. Deceptively pop, and yet blatantly not, 'Wolfmother' sees some of the best guitar work you'll have heard all year.

They might be silver-spoon fed industry brats, but The Like's debut album prove that class means nothing when you've got the tunes to back up the swagger.

33. Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesound
With boy bands and Britney behind him, Justin proves to be more than just a one album wonder. Brilliantly masterminded by Timbaland, it's 'Justified' and then some, as a simultaneous US Number One album and single go to prove.

32. The Who – Endless Wire
Only Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey remain, but the band’s first album in 24 years felt like classic Who. Half the album was a rock opera that left us scratching our heads - it didn’t matter though, as any band who can write some of their finest work forty years after their first hit deserves to be heard.

31. CSS - Cansei De Ser Sexy
Coming out of nowhere like a cooler-than-thou force of nature, CSS could well be the most unlikely pop success of 2006. A bunch of Brazilians with an unhealthy love of DFA 1979, their Sub Pop released debut is nothing short of dancefloor flattening.
