No it's not about martians invading, although it would be slightly more interesting if it was. A intergalactic battle is a tad more fascinating than this lament over a relationship that's failing because, you know, one party is too busy to call, and they're just not there for each other. So Sam Duckworth is exaggerating the scale of this bad relationship a little bit. Now, if there were flying saucepan lids, then he'd be justified.
Alas, the tune is as insipid as the story that's being sung. The soft acoustic guitar builds up to the string section, but the lush production is wasted. It's all a bit wet.
