How to follow-up a super smash hit is a question which has puzzled pop scholars for years. Get it right and the world is yours, get it wrong and you're unlikely to ever appear on Popworld again.

'Monster' was the soundtrack to many people's summers, a big, bouncy single destined to appear on any 'I Love 2006' compilation worth it's salt in years to come. To follow it, The Automatic have opted for a beefed-up version of limited-edition debut single 'Recover'.

It's a sharp pop song with a sing-a-long, stop/start shouty chorus, some buzzsaw guitar action and a hint of new-wave synth in the background. Producer Ian Broudie performs his usual trick of pulling everything together in an exciting, shiny pop package.

On this evidence, The Automatic hardly deserve to filed in the one-hit-wonder drawer, and instead should be played in indie discos throughout the land, and interviewed by Alex and Alexa again very soon.
