Busy little monkeys aren’t they? Recording new material for every single is indeed a noble idea, that is unless it is as contrived as 'Leave Before The Lights Come On'. The title says all you need to know; another tale straight from the dancefloor, a mini-soap opera dealing with teenage nights out and pulling and…yawn. “This is a good idea, you wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t/Well my friend fancies you.” Suddenly those comparisons of Alex Turner to Morrissey et al seem a bit silly.
Musically aspiring desperately to be 'A Certain Romance' and not quite making the grade, this single will no doubt go down a treat with the Arctic Monkeys' adoring fans. The songs that gained those fans seem to have deserted last year’s next big things though. More and more of us are left scratching our heads, wondering where it all went wrong.
