Hot Chip - Colours
More on: Hot Chip

Label: EMI
Release Date: 14/08/06
Rating:

Hot Chip are clearly doing their best to avoid the one-way ticket to the dumper that is winning the Mercury Music Prize by releasing one of the weakest tracks from their 'The Warning' album. 'Colours' wants to be the sort of beautiful electronic ballad Air are capable of writing, but ends up being bland and repetitive. "Colours and colours and colours and..." sings Alexis Taylor over the tune which is as lightweight as Victoria Beckham and less memorable than many of her singles.

The DFA team are roped in to work their remixing magic on the B-side but fail to match the brilliance of their version of the band's 'Just Like We (Breakdown)', adding little to the track, and somehow making it last for over seven and a half minutes.

Noone needs to buy this single. If you're a Hot Chip fan then you'll already have the album, and if you're curious to hear why hip kids have been raving about the band, try 'Boy From School' or 'Over And Over' instead.
