If most of the half-filled Alexandra Palace looks confused, it's hardly surprising. First support act Polysics are singing (or should that read shouting?) in Japanese. That their English barely stretches to thank tonight's headliners Kaiser Chiefs and fellow warm-up act Graham Coxon matters not however; by 'My Sharona' half the growing audience is dancing, and single 'I Me My Mine' proves equally as popular.
Graham Coxon needs little introduction to the vast majority of Kaiser Chiefs' audience, and while tearing through tracks from new album 'Love Travels At Illegal Speeds' and predecessor 'Happiness In Magazines', it's easy to wonder why the one-time Blur guitarist isn't headlining here himself. 'Spectacular' and 'Freakin' Out' are easily the most recognised tracks in a set which bravely finishes with the masses-baiting 'People Of The Earth'.
And so to Kaiser Chiefs. Dire Straits have been replaced by fancy initialled curtains this time around, and the band launching straight in to 'Everyday I Love You Less And Less'. To keep the party going with just one album of material seems strange; 'Saturday Night' and 'Born To Be A Dancer' are as well-recieved as singles 'I Predict A Riot' or 'Modern Way'. Even brand new tracks 'Heat Dies Down' and 'Learnt My Lesson Well' don't cause a dip in atmosphere.
The party mood continues with the encore - 'Highroyds' seems the most immediate of the new lot, and by the end of a deliberately prolonged 'Oh My God', Alexandra Palace is worn out, sweaty, but couldn't have a bigger grin on its face if it tried.
