Rewind to the back end of 2005. The Automatic were one of the bands tipped to make a grand entrance in to 2006. 'Recover' showed the needed promise of being a great launchpad for an even greater career. Yet, with the imminent release of 'Raoul', it all seems to have gone a little flat. SXSW has brought a whole new bucketload of hot bands to tip, and these Cardiff boys have fallen by the wayside.
It's not that Raoul is a bad song; as indie-dance-punk floorfillers go, it's up with the top third, but for a band on which so much hype has been placed, doesn't quite create the levels of expectation needed for an album to make any kind of great impact. Despite a great hook, the tune isn't entirely memorable, and with lyrics which at times seem unintelligible, Arctic Monkeys aren't going to be buying new boots to quake in anytime soon.
