The Dandy Warhols - Earth To The Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols - Earth To The Dandy Warhols 'Earth To The Dandy Warhols' arguably will forever prevent the band from being tagged as "just an indie band" as they return to form with this blistering LP. 'The World The People (Come On)' opens with chilled but strangely alluring guitars and drums working in tandem to soothe your mind. It is a perfect concoction of soft grungy guitars and indie beats. On a similar note 'Mission Control' again sees the Dandy's further progression. This one is a dirty electro pop song and it recalls the greatness of bands like The Eels in its ability to perk you up with some witty material.

The pace slows for 'Welcome To The Third World', a jazzy and blues infected beast that shows off the influence of Beck and others while maintaining individuality when it comes to the spiky drums. 'Wasp In The Lotus' is a space rock odyssey, and it will carry you through four minutes of dark and brooding psychedelia that you won't be able to resist bobbing your head along to. The follow-up track, 'And Then I Dreamt Of Yes' reminds of early material. This is the kind of arty rock sound that makes you not care and think that everything just... fine and dandy.

In contrast, 'Talk Radio' plods along in a similar vein to the other efforts until some fantastic guitar work at 1:50 which, if you're a fan of My Bloody Valentine and the shoegaze genre should send your head spinning. Some trademark chanting is also added at the end for extra effect. 'Love Song' again sticks to their trademark sound but pales in contrast to the first few tracks on this. This is followed fortunately by the raw 'Now You Love Me' which is equally as chaotic as it is addictive. 'Mis Amigos' is a light and fluffy side dish to the impactful 'The Legend Of The Last Of The Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad Of Sheriff Shorty' which is a powerful and hard hitting song (borrowing in part from Nick Cave) to create a solid lead single.

'Beast Of All Saints' carries on from the conclusion of 'The Legend Of...' and provides you with a chance to relax after the hectic previous minutes. Here you can see how the band themselves act as influence for some newer acts coming out today, as their individuality really shines through. This idea is also pushed on 'Valerie Yum' and final effort 'Musee D'Nougat'. All three tracks (the final being a 14 minute randomer) showcase The Dandy Warhols as a wholly relevant alternative act for 2008 who are able to bring the noise and the harmony in equal measure.
