Sparklehorse - Dreamt For Light Years…

Sparklehorse return with this, their fifth album, and it's a gorgeous piece of folk rock. As soon as you hear the dreamy chorus of opening track 'Don't Take My Sunshine Away', you know it's going to be an excellent album. It will be backing music of choice for any bar with a bit of class - in other words, it's perfect for listening to while chilling out with a drink.

'Some Sweet Day' initally sounds like an incredibly romantic love song, but quickly shows its darker side - the lyric "you can't put your arms around a ghost" sends chills up your spine. 'Ghost In The Sky' is probably the poppiest track on the album, and is a welcome change of pace. 'Mountains' returns to the distorted vocals and experimentation that are the Sparklehorse trademark. 'It's Not So Hard' is the rockiest track, and the vocal distortion sounds not unlike Placebo's Brian Molko. Not a bad track, but slightly out of place compared to the rest of the album.

On the whole, this is an album full of beautiful choruses and experimental folk rock. It's an album that most people could only dream of making.
