BM Linx - Black Entertainment

An interesting one this. A mash up of ballsy rocking 'n' rolling guitar thrashing and some electronic murmurs, 'Black Entertainment' is a feast of head-nodding potential. It doesn't really deviate from the norm, but when it does however, we're left wondering why they don't go left-field a bit more often.

That's not to say the norm is morosely mundane though, cause it's pretty exciting at times. 'The Outlaw Jimmy Rose' is a raucous concoction of distortion and strained vocals, but the underlying electronic heartbeat underneath helps to alleviate this from just another rock song. And this rings true with its peers; 'Red House Been Empty' is a six minute journey snaking through flowing synth sounds and guitar crunch - look out for the gloriously pulverising chorus riff - whilst the rustically metronomic drum beats of 'Clean Dirt' gives off echoes of those little rascals The Music.

It's in the dalliances with other influences though that BM Linx forge an interesting side path. 'White Limousine' is the jewel in the crown here, a swaying acoustic number with a string section attached, which floats deliriously through its three minutes and three seconds (is that all? we want more!). 'Ives Park' gives the strings a welcome reprise in what is a lulling rock song punctuated by a slimy Alice In Chains-esque chorus, whilst 'UO Acoustic' wraps things up with a rousing track that takes a nod from - whisper it - country music, but it's a fitting finale to an album that benefits from lucid downtime like this. It's a bit disappointing that there isn't more of these acoustic musings on this record, because they really shine. Still, it's a positively solid offering that merits a gander if you like your rock music hip-thrustingly danceable.
